The Buddhist path offers us practical and applicable tools for our real, everyday lives. The practices of mindfulness and loving-kindness can and should become a way of life. In order to truly live the teachings we need to dedicate periods of time to intensive formal practice. This day-long retreat is an opportunity to do just that. Together we will explore the four foundations of mindfulness with an emphasis on loving-kindness in a distraction free and supportive environment. The day will be held in silence and instructions will be offered throughout. This event is appropriate for anyone who is interested. No experience is necessary, preregistration is very helpful…but feel free to show up the day of the event. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Andrew Chapman has been engaged in Dharma practice over the past several years, studying under empowered Against the Stream teachers, Dave Smith and Noah Levine. His practice has been supported by several training and retreat programs focused on early Buddhism, Buddhist psychology, secular mindfulness and Vipassana meditation, and through his work as an addictions and mental health counselor. Andrew currently manages operations at Against the Stream Nashville; he also facilitates weekly groups, day retreats, and other monthly events. Currently, Andrew teaches mindfulness-based therapeutic interventions at several mental health and addictions treatment centers in the greater Nashville area, specializing in adolescent and youth treatment. Andrew has obtained his Masters in Social Work and is currently actively engaged in Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leader program.

According to the ancient tradition of Theravada Buddhism, we practice dana, the mindful generosity that opens the heart. We provide a donations basket so those who attend can practice dana in turn and keep the sangha going so that others can also attend freely.
