Meditation Daylong Getting More Skillful with Vedana with Bhikkhuni Sobhana Feb 6 at Alameda Sangha

Meditation Daylong
Getting More Skillful with Vedana with Bhikkhuni Sobhana
Saturday February 6, 2016, 9:30 am - 5 pm
United Methodist Church, 2311 Buena Vista,
Alameda, CA 94501

Feeling - Vedana in the Pali language of early Buddhism - is the subtle first point where any experience becomes accessible to the conscious mind. We learn from the Buddha’s teaching to see feeling as the trigger for craving, and also the easiest point where we can interrupt the cycle of craving, clinging and suffering. There will be periods of sitting and walking meditation, Dhamma reflections, and time for questions and answers.

Lunch: Please bring lunch and, if you wish, food to offer the …

January Art Show at Orland Art Center "New Life for a New Year"

January Art Show
 Orland Art Center

January 8th through January 30th, 2016
"New Life for a New Year"

A warm hearted show that begins the new year with artistic renditions of new life! Livening up the gallery walls will be puppies, foals, calves, chicks, kittens, lambs and other animal babies to delight our eyes.

This exhibit features six talented artists who also happen to have a strong affection for the animals in their lives. They use their artistic skill to capture that unique blend of vulnerability and timeless beauty that all babies have. They meet the challenge of creating art that celebrates new life in a way that others can relate to.

Each artist has a favorite medium and that is clearly reflected in this exhibit. After trying several different techniques, Carol Avellino found her true artistic voice speaks the clearest when she's using pastels. The camera clearly calls to Sharon Barker as her way of telling visual stories and her keen sense of composition never …
